Royal Navy track, Burnaby Road. Much to my surprise due to Paul Smith’s persistence we have secured access to the navy track on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The lights will be on from 5:30 to 8:00. A brief inspection today the track could do with a jet wash, but usable, the shot circle again a good brush required but again usable, there are hurdles available, two long jump pits, pole vault bed (it might be wise for someone who knows more than me to have a look before declaring it usable – and of course we’ll have to get the groundsman to put up the uprights ). The high jump fan looks OK but the take-off area was hidden under the cover. The groundsman said the landing bed was in good condition. As we already knew we can’t use the throws cage or javelin run up. Those of you with long memories will recall we ran an honesty box system last time we had to use the RN track the princely sum of £1 a head. The box and list to add your name to will be in front of the grandstand. If the usual numbers use the track we should cover most of our costs.
You can park in Burnaby road or the university car park. (I’ll see if I can get more information about university parking). You enter the grounds via the manned gates in Burnaby road, tell them you are from the athletics club and they will let you in the pedestrian gate. You will need to bring your own shot if you are throwing. There are toilets behind the grandstand and we can get the changing rooms open if anyone needs them.
