Basingstoke Open

Due to a -3-4 ms headwind today Personal bests were always going to be a rare commodity but all the Portsmouth athletes performed with grit and determination. We had a full spectrum of athletes competing today from little Rosa-May Sprake competing as a bottom year U11 to one of our new recruits U15 Marika Timberlake taking the first steps into track and field competition. We also had the amazing Serena Vincent upsetting her fellow competitors by competing in the U15 shot. Steven Cross competed with Guile in the 800m and there was a very strong contingent in the Male and female sprints. Amelia Spry, Ella-May Sprake and Sophie Brame all winning heats and reaching finals with a few medals won and surely PBs if the wind had been kinder. In the Boys/Men Sprints everyone smashed it with Billy Goodridge winning bronze in the U13 boys 100m as a bottom year athlete in only his 3rd competition David Howorth showing early season Power in the 100m Sprint and Oliver Charlesworth continuing a very strong start to the season with great performances in the 100m and 200m. There was also Joe Martin, 2nd in 100m final and 1st in 200m final, 23.2 into a head wind.
