  • INTRODUCTION

“The City of Portsmouth” Athletic Club through a “Community Fundraising Partnership” with “The Southern Co-operative Ltd” and its consortium of local businesses will provide benefits to both the club and the partner. We hope this partnership will enable the club to complete its long term ambition to replace the existing dilapidated Metal Storage Container, with a new 15m x 4m “Portakabin” for storing the clubs equipment, providing a preparation and storage resource for wheelchairs, whilst enabling sufficient space for a club office.. We hope the partnership will also assist our numerous short term projects, developments, initiatives and support programmes.

  • THE ATHLETIC CLUB

The club has excelled across many facets of athletic activity including track and field, road running and cross country. Membership is drawn from a large geographical area in addition to the local community base in the urban conurbation of Portsmouth. The club has always embraced disability athletics; Team GB Olivia Breen started her athletic life with us and is still a proud club member, our newly formed wheelchair section is showing success. Our Satellite Clubs, based in local state schools (Cams Hill, Portchester and Brune Park) have been the life blood of the club, incredibly in recent years providing 6 National age group champions (2 last year). Our community based project (Star track) supported in conjunction with Portsmouth schools has also played its part and providing county and National medallists last year.

The club is fully inclusive with members ranging from 8 years old to over 80 years old. All the Coaches, Team Managers, Officials, Committee Members and helpers are all unpaid volunteers giving up their time to help the local community reach their goals and realise their dreams in Sport.

  • THE SOUTHERN CO-OPERATIVE LTD

Our Community Fundraising Partner for 2017/18 will be made up of a consortium of 7 local businesses including 4 branches of 'The Co-operative Funeralcare’, ‘Dashwood & Denyer’ Funeral Directors, ‘G. Andrews’ Funeral Directors and ‘J C Langfords’ Memorial Masons. With a mixture of donations by each branch and fund raising events, these organisations will work with The Athletics Club to raise funds through 2017, supporting the purchase of a new state of the art track side facility giving the athletes, volunteers and parents, a much needed new storage facility and club office whilst further supporting our short term projects and initiatives.

  •  THE BUILDING PROJECT

“The City of Portsmouth” Athletic Club has a club building project in place. To use funds generated by the Community Fundraising Partnership with “The Southern Co-0perative” and the consortium of local businesses to generate sufficient additional funds for the project.

  • “New Club Storage Facility, Wheelchair Maintenance Room and Club Office ”

  • Artist Impression

  • “Disposal of existing Metal container facility, ready for new install and electric connection”

The old facility was originally intended as a temporary measure to allow the safe storage of club equipment. Since originally agreed with “PCC”, the container now has aged and unsurprisingly developed considerable rust making the doors on the container incredibly difficult to use further making them less secure.

From the club perspective the container does not generate the correct impression from the entrance of the Mountbatten Centre Car Park.

The new club facility will be Portsmouth AC branded and will be visible from outside and inside the track. A new sign will be commissioned to attach to the back of the new facility to improve community awareness of the club and its home Alexandra Park, where it has been for over 100 years. Club identity will be restored.

The new Club facility will include storage for club equipment, Storage for Racing Wheelchairs and a club office. The club facility which is also shown in position in the track photo above will be 15m in length and 4 metres wide. The total cost will be £30-35,000

  • FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS

No Cost to Club Members but help in assisting the fundraising initiative will be hopefully embraced by all club members and volunteers.

The financial cost to the club will be set off against 'The Community Fundraising Partnership with “The Southern Co-operative and its consortium of 7 local businesses
