CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AC
Competition leagues next season confirmed at committee meeting Wednesday12th Oct. 2017.
As always the objective is to provide a portfolio of competition that provides every active member the possibility to compete at an appropriate level. In addition, as a club to seek to improve this collection of competitions by gaining promotion from our present divisions, so moving up the leagues.
Alder valley:
Nothing has radically changed since last season so although the Alder Valley was not perfect (eg. the fact boys and girls were on separate days ) the managers still regarded it a worth while experience, and only been there 1 year so no change here.
YDL leagues
The club has the long term aim to eventually have premier league teams in both the Upper and lower age groups of YDL in 4 years. Our U13/U15 have made it to the premier league in 4 years many of these athletes have now moved on so we can try to replicate this at the upper level. So the decision is to re-join the YDL upper, some of the rationale;
-
The total number of U17’s in the club next season is 65 we have an obligation to provide as best as we can appropriate competition for ALL these athletes.
-
With our reputation last season at U15 we have had a number of approaches to join us second claim and compete for us in the YDL upper.
-
Although we are next season limited in number of U20’ this upper league allows us to use our best U17’s as U20’s opening up possible gaps in the U17 ‘s to be filled
-
Finally we will be in the very lowest league at this upper level and looking at last years results promotion should be very possible
Wessex league;
We left this league last season but have decided to re-join this year and we will use this league as a sort of ‘novice’ competition especially for the U11 and U13’s where again we have huge numbers of potential athletes to provide competition, it will be totally optional for U17’s
SAL.
Again nothing has changed this year and this league will be used to bring on U17 and U20 athletes into the senior ranks, this is not as daunting as it sounds at the division level we operate at and last years results show this. However, promotion back to div 1 should also be something to aim at this year.
BAL
Nothing has really changed here except we have a number of new senior athletes who have joined or re-joined the club, additionally, we have had some new additions to our higher claim athletes.
UKWL
Our long term ambition has not changed here , we looked very closely at our senior women’s membership and decided that we are just a little short this season, of consistently being able to produce a team. But will seek to enter the promotion match at the end of the season with the chance to formally regaining our position in this league, the possible team for 2018 look much much stronger.
SCVAV.
Again nothing has changed and we will therefore continue our 20years in the league
